Creating a product to sell is no easy challenge, however, SGW Designworks was formed in 2008 to help businesses simplify the entire product design and manufacturing process. The three founders branched out from the Fortune 500 they were working at and decided to go it alone. Armed with their mechanical engineering knowledge and a Rolodex of past professional connections, they set out to launch their own company.

In this edition of The BigTime Podcast, CEO of SGW Designworks, Ryan Gray, meets with us to discuss some of the challenges he’s faced while growing a custom engineering firm. Internet of things devices (IoT), industrial equipment, specialized electronics, and virtual reality controllers are just a few of the many products they’ve been working on. SGW can take any product idea and instantly give it life!

“You just gotta realize that you are the sales engine of the company. And even if you bring in a business development person, that person is really going to be supporting your efforts more so than taking the lead on the sales efforts. In a small firm, a company that’s two, three, four people big, the founders are the face of the company.”
